Repair work starting this evening to major water leak in Ballina town centre

Irish Water and Mayo County Council are working to repair a major leak in the centre of Ballina this evening.

Customers in Pearse Street, Humbert Street, Dillon Terrace, Castle Road, Nally Street, the areas surrounding Belleek, Bachelor's Walk, Arbuckle Row and Emmett Street will be impacted as a result of an emergency repair to a leaking water main at the Dunnes Stores roundabout. It is estimated that up to 500 houses and businesses will be affected by these works.

This water outage will take place from 6 p.m. to approximately 2 a.m. tonight. Traffic diversions and road closures will also be in place from the Humbert Street/Dunnes Stores junction, the Pearse Street/Market Yard junction, and the Lower Pearse Street/Dillon Terrace junction.

Commenting, Ger Greally of Irish Water stated: “While repairing this leak, we are taking the opportunity to install critical valves at this location which will minimise the impact of any future outages and assist in better management of the network. This type of work would be very difficult to carry out during the day due to traffic.”

Irish Water has expressed thanks to customers for their patience while work on the water main is ongoing. The customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1850 278 278 and customers can also contact @IWCare on Twitter with any queries, or see the Irish Water website for updates.
