Body of young man found at Westport quay

THE body of a young man has been found at the waterfront of the Quay in Westport this morning.

The alert was raised by a person walking at the location.

The emergency services have been at the scene for a number of hours.

His remains are due to be removed to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar for a post-mortem examination.

The young man, aged in his early 30s, is understood to be from another town in Mayo and was attending an event in Westport last night with a number of his friends. 

Members of the local gardaí are investigating the circumstances of what is understood to be a tragic accident.
