Garda to investigate petrol stretching scam

A file is being prepared for gardaí in Co. Mayo on a scam known as petrol stretching. This involves the mixing of cheaper kerosene to petrol.

The engines of several hundred cars in the western region have been damaged by the practice, a meeting was told in Swinford last night.

More than 360 people attended the meeting in the Gateway Hotel and a further meeting is planned before the end of the month.
