Swinford supermarket celebrates euromillions win
Staff at a Swinford supermarket found themselves at the centre of a EuroMillions storm when news emerged that they had won last Friday’s €68 million lotto jackpot. Shoppers at Kennedy’s EuroSpar were left scratching their heads when they found staff at their usual posts despite their newfound wealth.
The ‘multi-millionaires’ became the focus of public curiosity on Saturday morning when the supermarket, owned by Derek Kennedy, confirmed on its Facebook page that a syndicate comprising 15 members of staff had indeed won a sum on the previous night’s EuroMillions.
The post, with a picture of the winning ticket attached, continued: ‘All relevant staff have turned up on time for work as they want to keep things as normal as possible until the news really sinks in. Reports that some other members of staff who were not on yesterday but would have paid in cannot be confirmed at this point in time’.
News of the lotto win soon spread like wildfire across the county and beyond.
Speaking on Sunday evening, a member of staff was happy to confirm - as their Facebook ticket clearly showed - that they did have a win in Friday night’s draw. “We won alright - a tidy €5, which amounts to an amazing 33 cents each!”
The group decided to take a gamble and reinvest their winnings in last night’s lottery draw. Derek updated us this morning: “Unfortunately, our gamble didn't pay off and we won nothing. Easy come, easy go!”
However, shoppers are set to be the winners this week, as Derek confirmed: “To mark last Friday's win we are doing Friday Fiver offers this Friday so everyone will be a winner with us.”
