Top educational post for westport councillor
WESTPORT-based Councillor Tereasa McGuire has been elected chairperson of the new Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board (former VEC).
Following her appointment, Councillor McGuire said to chair the ETB for three counties with differing infrastructure and needs represents ‘a real challenge’.
Her proposer, Councillor Tom Connolly, and seconder, Councillor Lisa Chambers, spoke of her experience as a committee member for the past 15 years and her energy, diligence and commitment to education at all levels.
Fine Gael Councillor McGuire, a teacher by profession, pledged to be fair and to represent the best interests of all three counties.
She stated: “As education providers we must deliver the highest quality for all who seek education in our counties, be it primary, secondary, third level or those returning to education.
“Our country and our counties are emerging from a very difficult time and I am determined that Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB will provide the education and training opportunities that our communities need to take advantage of the recovery.”
