Take on the kube in irish cancer society fundraiser
DO you have what it takes to beat The Kube? Based on the popular ITV game show hosted by Philip Schofield, you will have an opportunity to test your nerve, ability and determination at a novel night’s entertainment in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Friday, October 17.
Boots Castlebar, in conjunction with the Royal Theatre, are hosting The Kube in support of the Irish Cancer Society. A number of Mayo footballers are among those who have already signed up for the event, and it’s not too late to join them.
Boots want 42 skilled and tactical contestants to take part, with €1,000 up for grabs for the winner as they test contestants’ physical ability, mental ability, intelligence and responsiveness. There will be seven heats, with six people competing against each other in each heat. The two winners of each heat go through to the semi-finals, where the real battle begins.
There will be an opportunity for members of the audience to also have a go in the Kube on the night. And the ‘bookies’ will be there to take your bets.
Speaking at the launch, Boots Castlebar manager, Caroline McCaffrey, said the event will have all the lights, colour and action of the TV programme. It’ll be an intimate setting, with the kube itself positioned in the centre of the theatre, surrounded by tiered seating.
This is one of the biggest shows the production company have been involved with and the enthusiasm of the organising team promises it’ll be a thrilling event. Caroline and her team are passionate too about the chosen charity, the Irish Cancer Society. With 230 new cases of cancer in Mayo every year, it’s something that affects every family, she pointed out, and they wanted to give something back to their community.
Pat Jennings of the Royal Theatre said the show was not only innovative and different but also part of the community-driven programme which the theatre has in mind. He highlighted how the Royal Theatre has at least one community driven project each month for the next six months. “We are about giving back to the community and we are pleased to support this venture,” he said.
