Roadblock cleared for 160m mayo infrastructure project
Mayo County Council has today welcomed the withdrawal of Judicial Review proceedings in respect of the Compulsory Purchase Confirmation Order for the N5 Turlough – Westport road project.
This means that the council can now proceed, with the National Roads Authority, to acquire the necessary land for the project and will keep the project motoring forward towards construction.
Commented Councillor Damien Ryan, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council: “The N5 project, consisting of 23kms of new dual carriageway, has been much sought after in this county for some time now. I am delighted that the project can progress to the land acquisition stage, which will be a major step in bringing it to fruition.”
Mayo chief executive, Mr. Peter Hynes, said: “This important project will make a huge difference to road users and will further enhance the attractiveness of Mayo for investment and for tourism and will generally enhance confidence in the county.
“The investment of some €160m will definitely provide a boost for the Mayo economy and for the region at large.”
