Son of breaffy woman collecting nobel prize

PROFESSOR John O’Keefe, a son of the late Bridget Bourke, Kilknock, Breaffy, Castlebar, is being presented with the 2014 Nobel Prize for Medicine at a ceremony in Stockholm today.

It represents an unprecedented feat for a man with Mayo roots.

London-based Prof. O’Keefe, aged 75, will also be awarded an honorary doctorate of science from Univerity College Cork on Monday next, December 15, at which members of the extended Bourke family will be in attendance.
