Demands for court injunction to stop castlebar clamping
AN elected member of Mayo County Council has written to the head of the authority’s planning enforcement section seeking a court injunction against the proprietors of a car park in Castlebar where clamping is in operation.
In his letter to Joe Loftus, director of service, Councillor Michael Kilcoyne stated: “As you are aware, the Royal Quarter in Castlebar has introduced paid parking and clamping in recent months. I have taken advice on this matter which leads me to believe that this commercial development is unauthorised. Planning permission was not sought for this pay-for-parking car park business.
“I am requesting Mayo County Council to take the necessary steps to stop this unauthorised development. I am of the opinion that a court injunction should be sought to close the development forthwith as money is being extracted from members of the public which I believe is illegal.
“Please let me know what action Mayo County Council propose to take and the estimated time frame.”
Councillor Kilcoyne is awaiting a response but the understanding is the matter is with the council’s legal representatives.
