Top fiddle players for cisir na nollag in claremorris library
Conradh na Gaeilge invites all who are interested in Irish language and music to a Christmas celebration in Claremorris Library tomorrow (Friday, December 12) at 8.30 p.m. for a concert of traditional music featuring two of Ireland’s leading fiddle players, John McEvilly and Laura Beagon.
From Ballintubber, John McEvilly is a music graduate of Queen’s University Belfast. He is currently teaching in St. Patrick’s Boys National School in Castlebar. John has taught fiddle for Scoil Éigse at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann for the past 10 years.
Laura Beagon is from Corcaghan, Co. Monaghan, and is one of Ireland’s finest traditional musicians. Crowned All-Ireland senior fiddle champion at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and Fiddler of Dooney in 2007, she has been acclaimed for her flowing and dynamic style of playing as well as her vast repertoire of Irish traditional music, and is a much sought after fiddle tutor.
Both John and Laura are members of the Knocknashee Céilí Band that was placed second at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Sligeach this year.
Admission to tomorrow's concert is free and all are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Fáilte roimh chách. The event has been organised by Conradh na Gaeilge in association with Leabharlann Chontae Mhaigh Eo.
