Cillian promotes mayo day to 75000 fans at old trafford
Award-winning Mayo GAA and Ballintubber player Cillian O’Connor flew over to Manchester to help promote next year’s Mayo Day to a capacity crowd of 75,000 at Old Trafford.
Cillian joined forces with Mayo Manchester to promote the global celebration, which is taking place around the world to celebrate all things Mayo on Saturday, May 2.
Mayo.ie arranged for the brand new Mayo shirt, which has only just been released in Ireland, to be shipped over to help with the event.
Cillian was joined by Lawrence Hennigan Senior from Mayo Manchester and his son, Lawrence Junior. They were also joined by Cillian’s three brothers, Ruaidhri, Padraic and Diarmuid, plus fellow Ballintubber team-mate Danny Geraghty and their cousin from Manchester, Paul Heneghan.
Tony Hennigan, press officer for Mayo Manchester, commented: “We were delighted that Cillian and his brothers could help us promote this historic day at the United versus Liverpool derby. It is the game that all the Mayo Diaspora go to.
“Alan Keegan - the ‘voice of Old Trafford’ - gave us a great mention to the 75,000 fans inside the grounds and Wayne Rooney, whose wife, Colleen, has Mayo roots, scored the opening goal, which led them to beating Liverpool 3-0.
“Mayo Manchester were delighted to have been asked to become a Mayo Day ambassador to promote the global Mayo Day celebrations. We have already booked the award-winning Ballina band, Flatout, to perform at a special concert in Levenshulme and are hoping that Cillian might be able to make it over as well.”
