Swinfords michaela named irish junior athlete of the year

MICHAELA Walsh from Swinford has been named Irish female junior (Under 23) athlete of the year.

The prestigious award comes at the end of a year which saw the 15-year-old represent Ireland at the World Junior Olympics in Bejing. Competing in the shot putt at the games, Michaela came sixth in the world.

It’s been a good week for the talented teenager as she was also named Swinford Athletic Club’s athlete of the year for the fifth year in a row at the club’s annual awards night on Sunday.
