Jobs hopes high with up to six new industries in the pipeline
TAOISEACH Enda Kenny has expressed optimism that up to six new industries will start up in Mayo over the coming months, with the creation of a significant number of badly-needed jobs.
He revealed he is in direct negotiations with foreign investors interested in establishing plants ‘with a global reach’ in Castlebar and Ballina.
“This is not an official announcement, but I am very hopeful on both counts,” he stated.
Deputy Kenny said good news is imminent in respect of the former Volex plant in Castlebar where three enterprises are to be located, providing a timely jobs boost for the town. The Fine Gael leader confirmed the IDA is to invest €4 million in its business and technology park at Breaffy Road with the construction of a state-of-the-art unit. “This will add considerably to the attraction of the location and should yield early results,” he explained.
Northgate Information Solutions, which has sold its public services division to Cinven, have begun recruiting in Castlebar after securing the former eircom building at Breaffy Road. It is expected to provide up to 150 jobs over the next three years.
The former Asahi factory in Killala is set to be transformed over the coming years as a result of a major investment by Ger Crotty of Mayo Power Limited.
Deputy Kenny has also unveiled proposals to expand the Museum of Country Life at Turlough Park House by renovating the original residence on the site.
