Qrvo barcode can revolutionise business opportunities

A CASTLEBAR businessman has come up with a sophisticated barcode that can revolutionise businesses by getting customers to scan it into their smartphones to avail of special offers or promotions. Quick Response Voice Over (QRVO) is an unusual and yet simple piece of technology, writes Tom Gillespie.

The original QR code was developed by Denso Wave, a Toyota subsidiary, as an industrial function in vehicle assembly operations. Now John Moran has re-engineered the original QR code so that it offers a much wider and more consumer-friendly application.

The QRVO now includes a professionally recorded voice over, is linked to analytics and can also be incorporated into social media campaigns.

As John explained: “The codes are now a consumer-friendly information gateway, where content is available in a non-invasive and innovative engagement. The user scans the code with a smartphone. No password or URLs are needed. Most modern devices have in-built scan facilities and the content is near immediate. The content can be a web link, voucher, special offer, directions, results, video or text call to action.”

The QRVO programme is designed for those in the advertising, promotion and branding sectors. The client determines the content, deployment and distribution. The QRVO graphic remains intact and the content can be altered remotely to reflect changing market conditions.

John continued: “The client can evaluate the number of scans, and the success or otherwise of the campaign through analytics. QRVO codes are about effective customer engagement based on impact, image, information and innovation.

“QRVO codes can be deployed in existing promotional material, packaging, business cards, outgoing emails, loyalty cards, key rings, e-zines, advertising signage, receipts, and labels.

“QRVO can provide local information points for the visitor and tourist sector. In the absence of conventional local information offices, strategically located QRVO codes can provide an abundance of local information on faces and places. The codes can be included in local mapping to ensure additional coverage.

“Pending EU requirements insist on greater traceability and ingredients information for the food sector, which may compromise some of the traditional branding area on the packaging. A QRVO code, perhaps video based insight into the production process, will enhance a Unique Selling Feature, USF - a talking cheese.

“A simple newspaper ad for music in the bar can actually include the music.

“For those recently bereaved, a QRVO code can capture and retain those treasured memories, photographs, text video as a lifetime memorial card.

“One of the most contentious issues in rural Ireland is parking charges. The local authorities require the revenue to deliver its services. The local business sector adopt the view that charges somehow penalise shoppers in town centres. A possible solution is, in conjunction with both parties, QRVO codes that are overprinted on parking tokens. The codes, with the participation of retailers, can provide special offers, vouchers on each token. If accepted, the business sector engages in an additional marketing channel.

“The once important business card can now become the new information point. The primary contact details, name, address, contact details, can be supplemented by a QRVO offering a web link, a new product, company details, directions, special offer, etc.
