Join your local operation transformation walk tomorrow
IS getting more physically active part of your new year resolutions? Don’t know where to start and need some support?
The new series of RTÉ’s Operation Transformation is again joining forces locally with Mayo Sports Partnership to encourage people to become more physically active.
A number of walks will take place across the country this Saturday, January 17, with Mayo walks taking place in Ballina, Belmullet, Castlebar, Claremorris and Westport. The walks, either 3k or 5k, will be led by instructors.
Details of locations, meeting points, registration times (in brackets) and start times on Saturday are as follows: Ballina, Ballina Town FC, Belleek (9.30 a.m.), 10 a.m. start; Castlebar, the new tennis club (9.30 a.m.), 10 a.m. start; Claremorris, entrance to Clare Lake (11.30 a.m.), 12 noon start; Erris, Civic Centre, Belmullet (9.30 a.m.), 10 a.m. start; and Westport, Westport Leisure Park (9.30 a.m.), with a 10 a.m. start.
“Operation Transformation 2014 was a great success, providing people with great motivation to get more physically active. After Christmas people are thinking of doing some exercise for whatever goal they may have and don’t know where to start. We hope to be able to provide support for people to become involved,” said Mayo Sports Partnership coordinator Charlie Lambert.
Event coordinators Mayo Sports Partnership and local organisers such as Ballina Athletic Club, Erris Community Health Forum and Westport Leisure Park are encouraging people of all age groups to turn out tomorrow. The campaign is supported by Mayo County Council in conjunction with Mayo Rural Alliances.
There is no cost involved and light refreshments will be available afterwards. Participants should wear loose clothing and bring some water.
Details of Mayo Sports Partnership’s follow on five-week initiative, Operation Get Active Mayo, involving 25 communities and groups throughout Mayo, will be promoted at www.mayosports.ie and in the local media. Other programmes such as Men on the Move, Couch to 5K, Meet and Train, Fit Walk, parkrun, etcetera, will also form part of this county-wide call.
