Golfers martin and mary to get in the swing for mayo roscommon hospice
The second of the eight couples to feature in our Strictly Come Dancing focus are arguably two of the biggest hitters in the game of golf.
Now, how they can bring those deft touches to the dance floor is going to be interesting but one thing you can be sure of, Martin Newcombe and Mary Fox have the star quality.
Martin’s talent knows no end, and it may come as a surprise to some of you that he is a Connaught badminton champion, which would suggest his balance and ability to reach those high points won’t pose a problem.
His long-suffering wife Anne also tells me he has been known to take the old flute out now and again and give it a good blast, and, of course, coming originally from the music capital of Mayo (Foxford), it is hardly surprising that music and dancing would be among his many gifts.
Mary and Martin will be dancing the Foxtrot, which for anyone who is not familiar with the dance, is similar in style to the waltz with a lot more grace and style, and will suit Mary’s graceful decorum.
The good news for Martin is that Mary is a nurse and has first-hand experience specialising in cardiac recovery should the need arise. Mind Martin’s ribs, Mary - old basketball wound there!
We will feature another couple next week as our build up to the big final night on March 28 in the Royal Theatre continues. All monies raised will go towards developments at Castlebar Golf Club as well as Mayo Roscommon Hospice, so please do support the dancers not only on the night but also in their fundraising activities over the coming few weeks.
