30m investment at former volex plant will create 250 jobs
A €30 million investment is set to create over 250 jobs at the former Volex plant in Castlebar over the next three years.
The welcome move being announced by Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Washington this afternoon will involve six different companies funded by the IDA. The firms in question are established in a range of commercial areas, including the food sector.
The Connaught Telegraph has learned that three of the companies involved are iFoods, Viridas and Georgia Biofuels.
A central part of the initiative is a collaboration with NUI, Galway, GMIT and Mountbellew AgriculturalCollege.
Mayo County Council, which is in the process of securing ownership of the plant at Breaffy Road, has been playing a key role in the delivery of sustainable jobs to Castlebar and the Mayo region with the support of the authority’s Local Enterprise Office and the Western Development Commission.
The project developers are expected to be on site within the coming weeks as moves get underway to commence operations in respect of a number of products which will have a global reach. The focus is on projects that bring an economic return as well as environmental and social benefits to the areas in which they operate.
