Mayo ae unit under pressure

THE management of Mayo General Hospital has issued a reminder to the public to keep the A&E department at the centre in Castlebar 'for emergencies only' and to contact their GP or GP out of hours services where possible.

The calls follows a very busy period at the unit last night (Tuesday) when there was a significant number of patients waiting to be seen. The hospital is working strenuously to ensure access to beds by those who are ill.
 

A statement issued by Setanta Communication Limited on behalf of the hospital stated: 'The hospital apologies to all patients and their families for any distress caused as a result of the delays.

'The hospital and Saolta University Health Care Group acknowledge the hard work, commitment and dedication of all staff at this time.'
