Speedy motorist clocked 7705 mph on mayo road

A MOTORIST was clocked driving at 124 km/h (77.05 mph) on the Westport road, near Castlebar, at the weekend.

The driver was one of 454 motorists nationally detected speeding during ‘Operation Slowdown’, the 24-hour garda initiative. He/she was detected driving at Ballymacrath on the N5 doing 124 km/h in a 100 kmph zone.

A second motorist – on the N18 in Co. Clare – was also detected doing 124 kmph. Both drivers face prosecution.
