Castlebar celtic manager steps down
Castlebar Celtic and Stevie Gavin have parted ways, the club has confirmed.
Gavin cited personal reasons as the factor behind his decision to step down now with a new season just under way.
Club chairman Greg Whyte said he wished to thank Mr. Gavin for his work with the club and wished him well in his future endeavours.
First team players Ioseph O'Reilly and Ger O'Boyle are currently looking after squad training while it is understood that Damien Burke is to return to the club as acting/interim manager for a period of time.
In his term as manager Gavin steered Celtic to the 2013/14 Connaught Junior Cup final, which they lost on penalties to Ballinasloe Town, but he was unable to fashion them into a side to break Westport's stranglehold within Mayo.
They did enjoy a great run in last year's Super League after a slow start and were clear in second place behind Westport and ahead of Ballina Town.
Celtic have lost one and won one of two Super League games so far this season. They play joint league leaders Ballina Town at home on Saturday evening (April 25) at 6.30 p.m.
