Safe slice gang strike mayo filling station
A GANG with an angle grinder is being sought following a ‘professional’ break-in to a filling station in Swinford in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The raiders used portable cutting equipment to gain entry to the Gulf Filling Station at Dublin Road and afterwards used the same gear to slice open a safe.
The gang got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The security system in the building was disabled by cutting phone wires.
Gardaí say the raid was professionally executed and have warned business owners to be on the alert as there may be repeat burglary attempts in the coming days and weeks.
Small to medium-sized businesses are particularly on the danger list, officers warn.
“Don’t keep any cash on business premises overnight or at weekends,” gardaí advise.
Anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact Swinford Garda Station at (094) 9251115.
