Knockgran canaria service discontinued
A shortage of planes means that Ryanair won't be jetting passengers from the west of Ireland this summer to popular sunspot Gran Canaria.
However, the airline will continue to link Ireland West Airport Knock (IWAK) to other destinations in the Canary Islands archipelago - which is about 100 miles off the coast of Africa - in the coming weeks and months.
Gran Canaria, the second largest of the Canary Islands, has been a huge hit with holidaymakers from the west, northwest and midlands since the service from Knock first started some years ago.
Both IWAK and Ryanair have confirmed that Gran Canaria is off the list of destinations for 2015.
The service had enjoyed more than 90 per cent capacity in previous years.
Ryanair says it simply does not have enough planes to service the route this summer.
In a statement, the company outlined: “The Knock/Gran Canaria route will not operate this summer due to a lack of aircraft capacity.
“However, our aircraft capacity will increase over the coming years as we continue to take delivery of an A380 new Boeing aircraft order.”
