Business as usual at ladbrokes in castlebar
IT'S business as usual at the betting premises operated by Ladbrokes Ireland in Castlebar – despite the bookie chain being placed in examinership.
The branch at Castle Street, Castlebar, is one of 196 Ladbroke shops (employing a total of 840) in the Republic of Ireland.
An examiner has been appointed by the High Court to the company to help the company survive following several years of declining profits.
Restructuring of the company is expected inevitably lead to redundancies in Castlebar and elsewhere.
Ladbrokes have been situated at Castle Street since the 1990s. The bookie shop is well frequented and staff there are hugely popular with customers.
Ger Whyte, the owner of neighbouring Castle Inn, wished Ladbrokes well today (Wednesday) and said he hoped the upcoming restructuring would ensure a sound future for the company, locally and nationally.
Castlebar is the only location in Mayo where there is a Ladbrokes presence.
