A cold snap is on the way

MAYO is bracing itself an unseasonably cold snap following the warm weather of the past two weeks.

Met Eireann has warned that temperatures are expected to plummet to minus four degrees tonight (Sunday) with some frost expected.

Tomorrow will be also be a very cold day with wintry showers also expected to make an appearance in the west and northwest.

Meteorologist Gerry Murphy from Met Eireann revealed the freezing conditions are unusual but not unprecedented.

So it's back to the winters woolies and coal fires for another while.
