Bin it antidog fouling appeal
Westport Tidy Towns is launching an anti-dog fouling and Bin Your Butts campaign.
Supported by Mayo County Council, the initiatives will be launched on Thursday, May 14, in Hotel Westport at 8 p.m.
Dog fouling and cigarette butts are the top issues of complaint from members of the public in recent times. Dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets but, unfortunately, some ignore their responsibilities.
As part of the initiative the committee, in partnership with Mayo County Council, are installing devices on the greenway and in other areas to ask dog owners to clean up after their dogs and for the wider public to bin their litter.
At the launch they will give a presentation on the negative health implications of dog fouling.
Cigarette butts make up about 46 per cent of the litter found on the streets of the country and Westport is no exception. Combating this is the aim behind the committee launching a new Bin Your Butts campaign where they hope to encourage all smokers to bin their butts.
