MICHAEL (Mickey P.) Parsons, Pontoon Road and Main Street, Castlebar, whose death took place suddenly at Mayo General Hospital on Sunday evening, was one of the county’s best known and most respected personalities.
A loyal follower of the green and red, news of his passing came as a tremendous shock to the community at large.
Proprietor of the long-established fashion establishment Don Racine at Castle Street, his generosity, sincerity and good humour knew no bounds.
Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Margaret, sons Martin and David, daughter Helena and extended family. He is also survived by his brothers James (London), Eddie (Dublin), John and Brendan (Castlebar), and sisters Liz (Castlebar) and Catherine (Australia), to whom sympathy is tendered.
His remains will be reposing at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, tomorrow (Tuesday) evening from 5.30 to 8 p.m. Removal to the Church of the Holy Rosary takes place from his Pontoon Road residence at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, with Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul at 11 a.m. followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium, Dublin.
The chairman of the Castlebar Municipal District, Councillor Al McDonnell, described the deceased as 'a true legend who never uttered a bad word to anybody’.
Councillor McDonnell, who also runs a business at Castle Street, said: “He was unquestionably one of the greatest characters of Castle Street and Castlebar. People were very quick to warm to him because of his affable manner.
“As a businessman, he had a very astute brain and operated one of the leading fashion outlets in the country.”
