Mayo turnout expected to reach 60 per cent
MAYO Yes Equality campaigners have turned the county town of Castlebar into a carnival atmosphere this evening.
They have been gathered at Market Square since lunchtime with their flags and banners to encourage passing motorists to vote.
Louds cheers rang out across the town centre every time motorists beeped the horn of their vehicles.
Informed indications are that up 60 per cent of the Mayo electorate will have cast their franchise by close of poll stations at 10 p.m. this evening.
The turnout in towns across the county up to 5 p.m. was Castlebar (24%), Ballina (26%), Westport (25%), Claremorris (25%), Foxford (20%) and Ballyhaunis (18%).
