Only one mayo district votes no

THE final tally in the Mayo constituency indicates a 'Yes' victory in the marriage referendum.

With 82.5 per cent of the 218 ballot boxes tallied, the percentage saying 'Yes' was indicated at 52.5 per cent while the 'No' vote was at 47.5 per cent.

A result is expected around 3 p.m.

Of the four municipal districts in Mayo, only Ballina registered a 'No' result.

Some 50.3 per cent of the electorate in the Ballina Municipal District returned  a 'No' vote while 49.7 per cent said 'Yes'.

Voters in all the other municipal districts in Mayo, Castlebar, Westport and Claremorris, returned a majority 'Yes' vote.
