Postmortem of glencorrib womens body is underway

THE body of a woman in her 40s found dead in a house in Glencorrib on Sunday is undergoing a post-mortem examination at Mayo General Hospital.

Her remains were removed to Castlebar earlier this afternoon (Monday)  where the examination is being conducted by Dr. Margaret Bolster, assistant State pathologist.

It is understood the circumstances of her death are not suspicious but gardaí are keeping an open mind until all enquires are completed.

The investigation is being headed by Supt. Mick Cyran of the Claremorris Garda District Division.

He was not available for comment, but a member of the Garda Press Office confirmed to The Connaught Telegraph that the name of the woman is not being released by the police authorities.

The results of a post-mortem examination will direct the course of the garda enquiries.

The woman, who is understood to be from the area, was found at a house in Ballycurrin, near Glencorrib, at about 4.30 on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the home. However they were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A technical examination was carried out later at the location which has been sealed of until the body was removed to Mayo General Hospital.

The cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Councillor Damian Ryan, extended his sympathy to the bereaved family on their loss.

The Ballinrobe-based representative said the tragedy was a huge blow to her family and the community of Glencorrib in general.
