Connaught final set for hyde park
HYDE Park, Roscommon, is coming under strong consideration as the neutral venue for the Connaught SFC final between Sligo and Mayo on July 19, The Connaught Telegraph has learned.
But the move, if ratified at a meeting of the Connaught GAA Council this evening, would result in the capacity being cut to around 20,000 for the clash due to health and safety regulations.
Talks are still ongoing in relation to the matter and the prospect of the match being staged at Elverys MacHale Park in Castlebar has not been ruled out.
Sligo County Board has the call on the venue and the early indications were that Pearse Stadium in Galway was the frontrunner.
It is The Connaught Telegraph's understanding, however, that issues are being examined to allow Hyde Park host the final on this occasion.
