Fire breaks out in mayo hospital ward

PATIENTS have been evacuated from a ward at Mayo General Hospital following a fire outbreak this evening.

Two fire-fighting units were called out to the hospital in Castlebar to deal with the blaze.

Ambulance personnel assisted in the safe transfer all of the patients to another ward within the hospital.

The cause of the fire is unclear at this stage but an investigation is underway.
