Two patients being treated for injuries after mayo hospital fire

TWO patients are being treated for injuries sustained in a fire at Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar last night, according to a statement issued by the hospital.

The statement read:  'We can confirm that due to a fire in a ward at Mayo General Hospital yesterday evening (June 28, 2015) two patients are being treated for their injuries and four members of staff were assessed in the hospital's ED before being discharged.

'The families of the victims have been contacted. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

'Approximately 30 patients were evacuated and these were returned to their ward around midnight.

'Mayo General Hospital and Saolta University Health Care Group would like to acknowledge the prompt action of the staff and the fire services in dealing with this serious incident.'
