Peak of the reek lets you to climb croagh patrick the easy way
SNAKES and Ladders are passé in Murrisk these days. The newest kid on the board game block is Peak of the Reek, in which players start at The Tavern, Murrisk - just a stone's throw from Croagh Patrick.
The game is a product of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme at the Gaelscoil and was launched last week at The Tavern.
The bi-lingual board game is based on Snakes and Ladders but rather than the familiar 'ups' of ladders and 'downs' of slithery serpents, Peak of the Reek features all the obstacles associated with climbing the pilgrim mountain.
Players must watch out for twisted ankles and other pitfalls, while the Pirate Queen and St. Patrick himself are good for a helping hand.
It's the perfect way to ascend The Reek without having to strap on a pair of hiking boots. Up to five players can take part and it's suitable for children of all ages.
Peak of the Reek was designed by Pat Tracey and sponsored by local businesses, with The Tavern as the main sponsor. The board game is available to buy from Gaelscoil na Cruaiche, Westport, or can be played at The Tavern in return for a donation to Mayo Mountain Rescue.
