Death of former newspaper proprietor
THE death has taken place of Aiden Redmond, King’s Hill, Westport.
In his 70s, the deceased, a former captain of Westport Golf Club, was co-founder and proprietor of The Mayo Post, a former Castlebar-based weekly publication. He was also a former member of the printing staff of The Connaught Telegraph and also worked in the printing industry in Watford for many years.
A devout Liverpool FC and Republic of Ireland supporter, he was a native of McHale Road, Castlebar, and played soccer with Castlebar Celtic and rugby with Westport RTC.
The late Mr. Redmond is survived by his wife Julia, daughter Michelle, sons Aiden, Brendan and Enda, brothers Joe (Ecy), Castlebar, Jeff, Castlebar, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandson, relatives and friends.
Burial takes place in Aughavale Cemetery, Westport, tomorrow (Monday) following Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul at 12 noon at St. Mary’s Church, Westport.
