Eircodes on the way to mayo from this week
EIRCODE has officially launched in Ireland, and from this week, every residential and business address in Mayo will begin to receive a letter in the post informing them of the new Eircode for that address.
Householders and businesses in Mayo are encouraged to look out for the letter in the coming days and when it arrives, memorise the Eircode for that address or keep it somewhere within easy reach.
Speaking at the official launch of Eircode, Minister for Communications Alex White said:
“Ireland now has a postcode system, which will make all our lives a little bit easier and a little bit better. Our smart, modern postcode system will enhance our lives and boost economic growth by facilitating more focused delivery of services by government and business alike.”
There are many benefits to using an Eircode, such as allowing delivery and service companies to accurately identify addresses so your deliveries get to the right location and making it easier to shop online. It also makes it quicker and easier for medical emergency services to locate addresses.
A handy online search tool, the Eircode Finder, will also allow the public to look up an address to find its unique Eircode using their PCs, tablets or smartphones. The Eircode Finder contains a useful map function that helps identify addresses quickly and easily.
Things to remember for when your Eircode arrives:
· You don’t need to do anything to activate the Eircode. Simply detach the Eircode from your letter, which you will receive in the post, and keep it somewhere handy.
· You can look up an address to find its unique code with the Eircode Finder tool, visit www.eircode.ie. No personal data will be held on the Eircode Finder, meaning it is not possible to search or identify names.
· Addresses are not changing; the unique Eircode is simply added to the address.
· Gradually, you will be asked by businesses for an Eircode e.g. for deliveries or online services. Be mindful that while businesses and online companies are currently updating their systems to recognise Eircodes, this may not happen immediately with all businesses.
To ensure that Eircodes are effectively used, key government and utility databases have already been updated to include Eircodes. Businesses across the country have also been provided with information to allow them to prepare their systems for the introduction of Eircode.
