All roads lead to garbos
OVER the coming months, Garbo’s in Castlebar will be showcasing some of the best up and coming Irish bands around Castlebar and further afield, bringing acts such as The Fontaines, Be Curious Kid and even Ryan Sheridan to the county town.
First off tonight (Saturday, July 18), expect to see the long awaited Grunge Unplugged 2 where local acts from around Castlebar, including Still Alive, will come together to pay tribute to some of the greatest grunge bands of all time, among them Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Alice In Chains, and more.
A big crowd is expected so do arrive early for what promises to be a packed show, with all monies raised from the night going to Airc, supporting children with disabilities in the Mayo area.
Next Saturday night (July 25), Dubliners The Fontaines take to the stage with local band Be Curious Kid. Now based in Dublin, Be Curious Kid are a three-piece drawing influences from many areas, including math rock, funk, hip-hop, and generally loud noises. Support on the night will come from Let Loose.
On the August bank holiday weekend the Jam Shugar Sessions return with an Irish rock night featuring The Mississippi Shakes and Skinny Liz.
The Mississippi Shakes are a dedicated, hardworking, no frills, energetic power trio. They proudly share Rory Gallagher’s music around Ireland at every given opportunity, and they continue to be inspired by Rory's life and music.
Support act Skinny Liz, a tribute to Thin Lizzy, consist of local musicians who have played at previous Jam Shugar Sessions and these musicians will be joining forces for this extraordinary night of rock 'n' roll to bring you Skinny Liz. Thin Lizzy's music never fails to get the crowd on their feet with numerous hits that include 'Jailbreak' and 'Dancing In The Moonlight', among many more.
With a big number of shows on the way at the Garbo's venue, expect to see many announcements in the coming months. Stay tuned!
