Calleary second favourite for top job
MAYO Deputy Dara Calleary is second favourite to become the next leader of Fianna Fáil.
With an election looking like it’s going to be sooner rather than later, BoyleSports can report a major move for Westmeath TD Robert Troy to become the next leader of Fianna Fáil. Troy has been supported into 12/1 from 33/1 following a large bet of €300 placed on the Westmeath native at 33/1 in a BoyleSports Dublin city centre shop on Monday evening.
Currently, Cork native and Fianna Fáil’s Spokesperson on Finance, Michael McGrath, is the favourite at 5/2 to replace current party leader, Micheál Martin.
Dara Calleary is next in the betting at 7/2, with John McGuinness relatively easy to back at 5/1.
Éamon Ó'Cuív is next in the betting at 6/1 with Niall Collins available at 8/1. Senator Thomas Byrne is probably a bit short priced at 9/1 whilst Troy is next in line at 12/1.
Liam Glynn, BoyleSports’ spokesperson, said: “Troy, who is currently Fianna Fáil’s Spokesperson on Children, was as big as 66/1 in January to become the next leader of Fianna Fáil and is now a major contender for the role having been supported into 12/1.”
