Girl dies from injuries sustained in road accident

THE 18-year-old girl seriously injured in a road accident at Breaffy, Castlebar, yesterday (Thursday) evening passed away overnight at Mayo General Hospital.

Her name has not been officially released but she is well known locally in her native Castlebar area.

The victim was walking at Carrownurlaur, Breaffy, at around half-five last evening when she was struck by a passing car.

The driver of the car, an 83-year-old woman, was admitted to Mayo General Hospital and detained overnight.

A male passenger in the car was also treated in hospital but was discharged later.

The N60 at Breaffy has reopened to traffic following a garda forensic examination.
