Man in a serious condition after ballina stabbing

A MAN is critically ill in Mayo General Hospital following a stabbing incident in Ballina early today.

The victim, who is in his mid fifties, was discovered slumped on the ground at Tom Clarke Place, in the Parkside area, around 4 a.m.

He was rushed by ambulance to hospital in Castlebar where he underwent emergency surgery later.

The spot where the incident took place is sealed off this morning as gardaí carry out a forensic examination.

Gardai at (096-21422) are appealing for witnesses.
