Navys help requested by family of missing fisherman
THE family of missing Mayo fisherman Daniel Doherty have appealed for the Irish Navy to become involved in the search for his body.
But a Defence Forces' spokesman indicated tonight (Tuesday) that at the moment the Navy is not in a position operationally to fulfil that request.
The spokesman did say, however, that the request may be reviewed in due course.
Mr. Doherty (23), from Carrowtigue, Belmullet, has been missing since Friday last when he went to lift lobster pots in Broadhaven Bay.
His empty 30-foot boat, a half decker, was found late on Friday night on the shoreline closed to Benwee Head.
Despite a massive search, involving a Coastguard helicopter, two lifeboats, gardaí, civilians, local trawlermen and divers, there has been no sight of the missing fisherman since.
