Recordholding just baked in running for three blas awards

A NUMBER of Mayo food producers are in the running for awards at the 'Food Oscars' this weekend.

Just Baked, the local artisan bakery with outlets in Westport and Castlebar, has had three of their products shortlisted for the Blas na hÉireann 2015 Awards after making it through to the final round of judging.

The Academy Awards of Irish food, the Blas na hÉireann Food Awards are held in Dingle every year. The winners will be announced on Saturday, October 3.

Just Baked holds the record for 12 previous awards for their excellence in artisan baking.

Based on a stringent blind tasting system, this awards competition is respected at the highest levels of the profession. To be recognised for one product is success – to have 12 previous awards and three products in the running this year is outstanding.

The three products that Just Baked have shortlisted are their Ferrero Rocher Gateau, Terry's Chocolate Orange Fresh Cream Gateau, and Crunchy Onion and Clew Bay Dillisk Spelt Soda.

Just Baked never enters the same product twice - always reinventing the range and keeping it updated.

Just Baked is giving away free samples of the shortlisted products and the previous winning products on Friday and Saturday, October 2 and 3. Just Baked shops are located at James Street in Westport and Hopkins Road, Castlebar.

Other top producers also in contention for awards are Achill Mountain Lamb, Jack and Eddy's, Kelly's of Newport, Clarke's, Carr & Sons, Harvest Moon, Just Baked, Wildwood, MMM Family Bakery, Reel Deel, and Western Brand Group Ltd.
