Rings polltopping performance on facebook

HE'S a very sociable character by nature but now Minister of State Michael Ring has got even more social – he's joined social media.

The media savvy minister debuted on Facebook on Tuesday night and by lunchtime today (Friday) he had amassed 724 fans.

Through his page, he said, he hopes to keep followers updated on all announcements, news and information. The announcement of major funding for Mayo sports clubs on Thursday was among the first good news he delivered, with many clubs logging on to say thanks.

Ring's arrival on Facebook has heightened expectations locally that an election is going to happen sooner rather than later.

If he notches up votes at the same rate as he's been getting Likes on his page he could be heading for another poll-topping performance!
