Death of widely respected castlebar businessman
THE death has taken place of Tom Jennings, Turlough Road, Castlebar, one of the town’s best loved personalities.
He was the founder of Castlebar Farm Machinery Limited, located on Turlough Road, and built up a very successful business before his retirement a number of years ago. In recent years, he spent much of his time living in Spain, where he loved the climate.
Before entering the tractor trade, Tom had a butcher shop at Linenhall Street, which is still fondly remembered by the public.
He was a trustee of Castlebar Golf Club and served as men’s captain in 1996.
In his early 80s, he died peacefully at Mayo General Hospital following a relatively short illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann, a number of years ago.
His remains will be reposing at his residence on Wednesday evening from 4 until 8 p.m.
Removal takes place on Thursday at 10 a.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery.
He is survived by his sons Thomas, Peter, Noel and James, daughters Mary, Connie, Dolores and Valeria, brothers, sisters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and friends.
