Mayo museum attracts 100,000 visitors so far this year
OVER one million visitors (1,016,733) have visited the four sites of the National Museum of Ireland since the start of this year.
This is the fifth consecutive year that the museum has attracted over one million visitors.
It is also the first time this figure has been achieved as early as October and it represents a cumulative increase of 8% on the same time last year.
The Museum of Country Life at Turlough Park, Castlebar, has achieved close to 100,000 visitors during 2015 to date.
This award-winning museum is in its 15th year and is home to the National Folklife Collection which represents traditional life in Ireland up to fairly recent times. The current exhibition, ‘Migrant Women – Shared Experiences’ contrasts the experiences of young female Irish migrants to New York in the late 19th / early 20th century with that of women from around the world to Ireland in the late 20th/early 21st century.
A new display, ‘Cycling the Country’ opened earlier in the year to coincide with the extension of the Great Western Greenway from Castlebar to the Museum.'
