Woman critical following N17 smash

A WOMAN is in a critical condition at University College Hospital, Galway, following a two-vehicle collision on the N17 near Claremorris earlier today (Thursday).

The woman was driving a car southbound towards Co. Galway just before midday when her vehicle collided with a lorry.

The injured woman received medical treatment at the scene before being airlifted directly in a mercy helicopter to Galway.

She was alone at the time of the accident. The driver of the car wasn't seriously injured.

Traffic diversions on the N17 remain in place following the impact.
