Storm runs Christmas shoppers home early

THE main street of Castlebar was deserted this evening at 5 p.m. as Christmas shoppers went home early due to storm Desmond.

The rain is lashing down from the heavens and wind is pretty stiff. Unfortunately, it is expected to get even worse later.

But while there are not to many pedestrians around, there is no shortage of traffic with cars bumper to bumper around the town centre.

The warning from Met. Eireann is to avoid unnecessary journeys and stay inside unless until the worst of the storm passes.
