Magical holiday event in Ballina
IT'S December and that means it's Frosty Salmon Festival time in Ballina, with the event running from tomorrow (December 6) until the Monday of Christmas week (December 21).
Now celebrating its third year, the festival will deliver sleigh loads of Christmas cheer to the north Mayo capital this winter season, including a variety of merry family events.
To start with tomorrow (2 to 5 p.m.), the Jackie Clarke Collection transforms into a magical winter wonderland featuring a Santa workshop, arts and crafts, festive games and much more. Mrs. Claus will be busy all day prepping for Santa’s fanfare arrival at 4.30 p.m. as he descends on the museum and meets the lucky boys and girls.
In a blizzard of tinsel and candy canes, the procession will move through town, with Santa heading the parade towards the brand new Santa’s Grotto at the Military Quarter in the Market Square. Santa will also be in the grotto from 5 to 7 p.m. on December 11, 18 and 21, and from 12 to 6 p.m. on December 12, 13, 19 and 20.
Meanwhile, a European-style mistletoe market will also operate in the Military Quarter and turn Ballina’s town centre into a booming festive location of decorated stalls and lights, local traditional crafts and artisan foods. The markets will take place on the weekends of December 12/13 and 19/20 (12 to 6 p.m.), and will provide a feast for the senses on the countdown to Christmas.
This year’s Frosty Salmon Festival is sure to be one of the highlights of the winter calendar. Check out the Frosty Salmon Facebook page or follow Mayo North on Twitter for more information.
