Man remanded on bail over attack on TD's office

A 39-year-old man appeared in court today (Tuesday) in connection with an arson attack last January on the constituency office of Mayo TD Michelle Mulherin.

John Clarke, Greenhills Estate, Ballina, was remanded on bail to the February sitting of Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court.

One of the conditions of bail is that the accused must stay away from Deputy Mulherin's Ballina office. He also must sign on weekly at Ballina Garda Station.

Detective Garda Sinead Taheny gave evidence at Ballina District Court yesterday of serving the Book of Evidence on the accused.

The arson charges relates to the evening of January 27 last when fire brigade personnel were called to deal with a blaze which occurred at Deputy Mulherin's offices in John Street, Ballina, around seven o'clock in the evening.

Some damage was caused to the property before the outbreak was brought under control.
