Early Christmas cheer with Castlebar Concert Band

CASTLEBAR Concert Band embraces the seasonal spirit with a Christmas gala concert this evening (December 9).

The concert takes place at the Linenhall Arts Centre at 8 p.m. under the direction of Jackie Graham.

The event, which also features talented local vocalist Walter Donoghue, promises to be an enjoyable, heart-warming experience featuring a combination of seasonal favourites and other enduring themes.

Castlebar Concert Band plays a broad range of music from brass band marching favourites to popular music, film themes and many great jazz and big band numbers.

Sometimes the most enjoyable way to listen to Christmas favourites is to hear the instrumental version. All are welcome to attend and enjoy this special evening of music. Tickets are available from the Linenhall from €14 to €16 and can be purchased at the door. There is an extensive programme of music, with a very strong Christmas theme.

Other upcoming events to look out for include a Christmas concert with the local choir in Straide Church on Thursday, December 17, at 7 p.m., while the band also hopes to continue a great Christmas tradition by performing on the streets of Castlebar from Saturday, December 19, up to Christmas Eve. Mayo Youth Orchestra, which is a sister organisation, hope to get involved this year too.
