Council facing €1 million bill for flood damage
THE estimated overall cost of flood damage to Mayo County Council following Storm Desmond is estimated at €1 million.
That's according to Joe Loftus, director of services, who gave an overview of the present flood situation to members of the authority at a meeting today (Monday).
Standing orders were suspended in order to give priority to a debate on the flood emergency.
Crossmolina was worst hit by the flooding with 40 businesses and 70 residential houses sustaining water damage, Mr. Loftus reported.
There has been no need so far to implement the county major emergency but members of defence forces were available at the weekend to help out with sandbagging measures particularly in the south Mayo area.
